Medical Services
Coastal Developmental Paediatrics is a medical administration company which supports specialist paediatric doctors by providing facilities and administration services for their practice. All of the doctors who attend this clinic are independent contractors and are solely responsible for the provision of medical services and advice for your child.
All Paediatricians at Coastal Developmental Paediatrics provide individualised, specialist assessment and management of childhood developmental and behavioural conditions. Some also provide care for non-acute medical issues in children and infants.
Each specialist paediatric doctor (consultant) has experience in the assessment and management of:
- ASD - Autism Spectrum Disorder (including ADOS assessments)
- ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Developmental delay, and speech and language impairment
- Intellectual disability/impairment
- Learning difficulties (Dyslexia)
- Behavioural difficulties
- Genetic syndromes
- Sleep, feeding, and toileting challenges in children with developmental difficulties
- Initial assessment for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
Please contact the friendly administration team if you wish to seek further information about services provided by one of the doctors.
When there is availability for new patient appointment bookings, in order to book with one of the Paediatricians, please arrange a GP referral to be sent, named to one of the paediatricians via email (admin@cdpaediatrics.com.au) Medical-Objects or via fax to us. Please note: email correspondence including sensitive information sent to the practice may not be secure, unless emailed with encryption coding. Sensitive information sent via Medical-Objects (direct software communication from GP's practices), or faxed referrals, is more secure.
AGE range for Paediatric services: When able to accept new referrals, Paediatricians will see new patients referred up to 10-12 years of age according to each doctor's availability (see "For referrers" section of website for updates on specific doctor availability and referral criteria). Some doctors will provide extended care for their existing, well-known older patients up to 16 -18 years of age, depending on the young person's issues and the doctor's scope of practice. Paediatricians are required to then transition patients back to GP care by 18 years of age, for the GP to manage their care ongoing and facilitate referral on to adult medical or psychiatric services if the young person is requiring ongoing specialist care. Stimulant medication prescriptions from Paediatricians are not valid once the child turns 18 years.
Note on AI: Doctors at this practice have adopted AI (Artificial Intelligence) scribe software to assist with accurate record taking and communication documentation. Further details are outlined in the practice Privacy Policy, and can be requested from the reception staff or discussed with your doctor during the consultation.
INTERMITTENT SUPPLY INTERRUPTIONS OF STIMULANT MEDICATIONS: Concerta (Methylphenidate hydrochloride XR), Ritalin and Ritalin LA and VYVANSE® (lisdexamfetamine dimesilate)
Instructions for families experiencing pharmacy shortages of Methylphenidate medications Concerta (Methylphenidate hydrochloride XR), Methylphenidate (Ritalin and Artage), and Ritalin LA and Vyvanse (Lisdexamfetamine) - Updates regarding the supply of these medications will now provided for pharmacists and Drs through the Australian Government Therapeutic Goods Administration (medication authorisations body)TGA website. Medication shortages are occur intermittently due to overseas manufacturing, supply and demand issues worldwide and affect Australians because most of our medications are now manufactured off-shore due to cheaper production costs.
To help with supply issues, the TGA have approved access to several overseas-registered strengths of Methylphenidate tablets and modified-release capsules. You may request options from the pharmacist to dispense the prescription with substitution of an alternative brand if your usual prescribed medication is not currently available.
Please note that certain medicines a pharmacist can substitute may cost you more as they may be a more expensive brand which may not be subsidised fully by the PBS, and in some cases you may require a new prescription. The pharmacist will tell you about this.
Please contact administration if you require further assistance from your doctor with obtaining your child's Methylphenidate XR/ Concerta, Ritalin or Ritalin LA Methylphenidate medications, or Vyvanse (Lisdexamfetamine), if there is a supply shortage issue.
If your Paediatrician is not available, please discuss this with your usual GP.
